There is a secret to being overwhelmed and depressed that avoids the drugs and alcohol approach, and we are prone to overlook, dismiss and ignore. It is called “Flipping the Switch,” and consists of detachment, disconnection and the refusal to take our situation in life seriously in a “So What?” “Who Cares?” “Why Give A Damn?” kind of way–while focusing on doing what is called for in response to our circumstances “anyway, nevertheless, even so,” while taking refuge in our Original Nature, Our Innate Virtues (The things we do best and enjoy doing most), Our Intrinsic Intuition, and Our Inherent Imagination. Which can be facilitated by simply turning to Emptiness, Stillness, Silence (One thing, not three) and “waiting for the mud to settle and the water to clear” (An old Taoist formula from about 500 BCE, and is the essence and foundation of meditation, waiting for realization, recognition, awareness, enlightenment to lead the way to the Way, which makes it the Way itself).
