Looking Out The Window

I spend a lot of time looking out the window. I’m not looking at anything or for anything. I have no goal in mind beyond looking out the window. There is nothing to gain and nothing to lose. Nothing to want, nothing to fear. It is simply me and the window. And when I leave the window, I take the window with me, figuratively, not literally. I take the perspective of the window with me wherever I go.

I am not trying to get my way. I’m not trying to gain the advantage. Make a profit. Achieve some goal beyond simply doing what needs to be done and letting that be that. If I am eating lunch, I am eating lunch the way I look out the window. If I’m grocery shopping, I am grocery shopping the way I look out the window. I am doing what is called for and letting that be that.

And I think it is beyond a reasonable doubt to say that the Buddha spent most of his time looking out the window. Jesus probably spent a fair amount of time looking out the window, but his manner of death declares that he was much too politically active to have been solely involved in the practice, and for all the good his protests achieved, he would have been better served to have looked out the window all of the time.
