The 2010 adaptation of the movie based on Agatha Christi’s book is the most personally impactful experience of my life.
The movie opens with the stoning of a young woman pregnant out of wedlock in Istanbul and the reaction of westerners to the barbarism of the act on exhibition. And the rest of the movie is devoted to creating an atmosphere in which 12 westerners, the number of people who would serve on a jury, commit the same act of barbarism on the train. Waking all of us up to the reality of who we are and who we pretend to be. My gratitude and appreciation to all of those who wake us up, even against our will. And my awe before the high price of enlightenment and realization. Every awakening is like unto Jesus’ crucifixion on the cross prior to his resurrection. Producing the formula: “No resurrection without crucifixion.” No?
