It has always been that way.
Always. How long is always?

I threw away the God of theology about 3 years into 40.5 years as an ordained minister in the Reformed-but-not-reformed-enough faith, when I realized, “If this is the best God can do, God should be fired. And if this is not the best God can do, God should also be fired. So I fired God on the spot and served the remainder of my time in the ministry serving the God before and beyond theology, doing an amazing job with no traditions, doctrine, dogma getting in my way. Finding help everywhere all along the way–particularly in emptiness, stillness and silence (One thing, not three). Always there when I needed it, simply, it seemed, because I needed it.

I invite you to try it. When you need help along your way. Sit still. Be quiet (I look out the window quite often) and wait “for the mud to settle and the water to clear” (As the old Taoists say). And see what emerges, arises, appears, comes to mind.

We are not alone, but are in the service of a natural imperative directing us to take action in the service of what is called for, needs to be done, here, now, beyond discussion and without delay. A natural urgency compels us to action and leads the way. So that to refuse is out of the question. “The game is afoot.” And we must be off on a mission we do not comprehend without hesitation.

This may not be the help we have in mind, but it helps to have purpose and direction.
