There is a book entitled, “Understanding Taoism.” The foundation of Taoism is: “The Tao that can be said/told/explained/talked about is not the eternal Tao.”

I spent 40.5 years in the ministry talking to people about God, which I take to be equivalent with Tao. That is a lot of talking about that which cannot be said.

It’s like this: Talking to you about my realizations lays a foundation for you to make your own realizations. I create an atmosphere with my talking/writing that beckons those who hear and read to the task of grappling with that which is beyond–well beyond–reason and logic, rationality and cognition.

For me, the grounding essence of that which cannot be said is the physical sense, the mental awareness of “IT.” “Truth.” “Knowledge.” “Understanding.” “Comprehension.” “Realization.” “Etc.”

There is that which is beyond explanation and which cannot be denied. And we live to know that, serve that, acknowledge that, obey that, live aligned with that, belong to that…

I cannot explain my relationship with my camera. I told a guy once that I am in love with my camera and he scoffed and said “You can’t be in love with an inanimate object.” And that was that. You have to know–you have to be able to know–what I mean in order to understand what I am saying.

This, I take it, to be what Jesus was talking about when he said, “Many are called but few are chosen.” “You can talk to a lot of people but only a handful will comprehend what you are saying.” He was speaking from his experience.

And this is the foundation for me to say that “Those who know, know the same things.” And those who don’t know, don’t know the same things. And “birds of a feather flock together.”
