The trick with being–which is the essence of Christianity and spirituality and Buddhism and the best religions worldwide throughout time–is being who we are. The Christ-like thing about Jesus is that Jesus was who he was. He was himself. The Buddha was himself.

Holy people, spiritual people are themselves. The best people are who they are. In becoming Christ-like–In becoming Buddha-minded–we are becoming like ourselves, who we are capable of being. We are Not pretending to be someone else, endeavoring to be someone else. We are being true to ourselves. Who we truly are.

When we begin living our life just like we would do it, we will be doing what Jesus did with his life. what Lao-tzu did with his life. What the Buddha did with his life.

The enlightenment that came to the Buddha under the Bodhi tree was that all he had to do was simply be himself. Was merely be who he was as One Thus Come. “Suchness” as it pertains to the Buddha is understood to be the true, natural, nature of all things. Just being what something is. It is the eternal, internal, secret of life resplendent in every living thing.

Just so, being the Buddha, being the Christ, simply means being ourselves. When we are truly being ourselves, we are being the Buddha as only we can be the Buddha. We are being the Christ as only we can be the Christ. It is the secret of being a holy person worldwide throughout time.
