Articulation is saying what we have experienced, are experiencing. It is what we know because we know it. It is words about experience.

Verbalization is saying what we have been told to say, what we have heard, read, thought of, reasoned out, expressing what we know intellictually, rationally, reasonably. It is words about words.

When Jesus spoke he said what he knew to be so because he knew it. He was articulating lived experience. And speaking out of his own authority.

When preachers and theologians speak, they say what they have heard is so, been told is so. They are saying words about words. Words about someone else’s experience. And speaking on someone else’s authority.

Articulation is alive. Verbalization is dead. Articulation is what we know to be true. Verbalization is what we believe to be true. Tell me what you know. Do not tell me what. you believe. I will do the same for you.
