Prayer is our connection with the source and goal of life, and it has nothing to do with asking and receiving, with getting and being happy ever after. The Buddha summed up prayer beautifully, though he was talking about meditation, when he said, “Peaceful abiding, here, now.”

When I drop into the emptiness, stillness, silence (One thing, not three) and wait for what meets me there to appear, become present by being a presence, here, now, I have no idea of how the presence thinks of itself, or if it thinks at all. She is just here, now. And I think of “her” as “she” because men do not have what I’m looking for in terms of a helpful presence. I’m sure my abusive father has something to do with that, and Psyche’s connection with the feminine is also an influence, and Tao is refered to as “the valley mother,” and “the valley spirit,” so I’m leaning in the direction of the Divine Feminine from the start and the presence I meet in the silence (emptiness, stillness) is a feminine presence, which I connect with psychic urgency, drift of soul, an intuitive sense of what’s what and what is called for and creating an inner environment that is safe and welcoming, gentle and nurturing, creating an internal communion providing guidance and direction for the here, now of my life. I often generate ideas there that compel me to write it down before it disappears.
I make myself available to the emptiness several times a day and quite often at night, and find it to be a grounding, steading and pleasant, helpful way to spend the time, reassuring me that I am not alone, but well-equipped to deal with whatever comes along, and prepred to weather all storms in the Company Of That Which Is With Me Always To The Close Of The Age.
